We live our lives inside our own heads, and if you watch the human mind closely, you will see it does the same basic thing every single day: it makes up stories.

The mind is always trying to build a safe shelter. It is completely scared of things happening for no reason, of feeling empty, and of the raw, simple pain of not knowing why things went wrong. The moment a big problem happens, or the moment we feel lonely and empty inside, the mind goes to work. It rushes to find a reason, a formula, a timeline, or an explanation—anything to act like a safe harbor where it can tie up the boat and feel okay.

The Trap of “The Reason”

We create these long stories because facing real life without a script feels too heavy.

When we look back at a painful time in our lives, the mind hates simple facts. It is much easier for the mind to believe a big theory or a deep explanation than it is to just sit with the raw, basic truth of being human:

  • “I was lonely.”
  • “I was starving for love.”
  • “I believed a lie.”
  • “I made a mistake, and it hurt for a very long time.”

So, we throw a net of stories over life to try to control it. We look for patterns to explain away our past choices and keep ourselves from drowning in guilt or confusion.

Seeing Through the Mind Game

But here is the real truth: stories are just raft to get across the river.

A timeline, a chart, or an explanation can be a good tool to help us look at an old memory without feeling ashamed. It gives us a way to stand back and look at our younger selves with kindness. But once you have crossed the river of that pain, you do not need to carry the heavy raft on your head anymore.

When you see through the game, you realize the story is not the real thing. You do not need a big cosmic reason or a perfect explanation to justify your life, your choices, or your mistakes.

Dropping the Script

True peace does not come from finding the “perfect story” to explain your past. Real peace happens when you stop looking for reasons entirely and just step away from the wheel.

When you realize the mind is just playing a game to make itself feel safe, the need to constantly fix, analyze, and control your life naturally drops away. You are allowed to let the whole script go. You can just sit quietly in the present moment, watch the thoughts come and go, and see that you are completely safe right here, right now, exactly as you are.
